No alert popups when WinNUT is run as a service (Windows 7) #4

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. In Win7, use WinNUT configuration tool to run as a service (automatic or
manual).
2. Apply and start WinNUT.
3. On the server with the UPS, stop and/or start the NUT daemon.
4. No alert popup messages are seen on the Win7 system.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
In Win7, the standard installation location was selected. WinNUT run as an
application works as expected and alert popups are seen.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Used WinNUT-2.0.0.4a-Installer.exe for Windows 7 (with all the latest updates).

Please provide any additional information below.
Disabled firewall (Windows 7 Firewall Control) and virus (Microsoft Security
Essentials) programs in case they were causing any issues/conflicts but the
behavior was the same.

In Windows 7 and Vista, a service is not allowed to interact with a user's
desktop. I am working on an alternative approach using the system tray but have
not had time to fully test it. I hope to get it completed soon.

Its true problem with configuration non admin rights user.
There is no posibility to run monitor on such type account manually.

I found a workaround.
The key is the system event log (win7 home basic) and attaching tasks to
filtered events.
