zfs aggregates don't show expected physical form

I've got two zpools. one's made entirely of SATA3 spinning disks, and the other entirely of NVMe SSDs. an MD aggregate based off the same NVMe (different partitions) properly shows up as NVMe, but both zpools show up as '?':
