recode C in python #1

I don't like having C code here, which requires a development system that I suspect schools don't have. I think a python script is more appropriate, and will be fast enough.

Hm, I see I coded it in perl at one point (https://github.com/dankelley/school-sky-light/blob/main/code/master_in_perl/logger.pl). Now, there's a flash from the past.
