Unable to change hostname #145

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Fresh install of snake
2. attempt only to change hostname. Hit Apply
3. Reboot

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect hostname on network to be the new hostname (STATIK-NAS or STATIK)
Instead see unknown or snake

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
SNAKE OS V1.3.2 (20101130)
ns-k330 from dealextreme.com 1 month ago

Please provide any additional information below.
Original MAC was 08:00:50:52:8b:82, new range cannot even get close.

I use a DHCP server on my gargoyle OS router. I use the MAC address to assign
specific IP to resources. I cannot get the snake MAC or hostname to stay
consistent so I cannot use my resources on my network. I want my wife's laptop
to be able to auto-backup to the network drive.

Did I do something wrong?

The MAC address keeps changing as well. Here are the last three:
(unknown) 192.168.2.157 AC:DE:48:42:5B:2A 11h 45m
snake 192.168.2.170 AC:DE:48:8B:53:66 11h 55m
(unknown) 192.168.2.179 AC:DE:48:99:E9:EB 11h 33m

As you can see, the MAC is not stable so I can't do proper DHCP with it. This
is rather frustrating. I have rebooted the NAS several times, and each time it
has a different MAC and a different IP (naturally). I need this stable.

Too bad you guys don't have a live chat or something.

Alright, I've figured out how to change the hostname successfully. It isn't too
clear in the manual or the on screen instructions.

First, go to the hostname section, enter the new hostname and hit apply.
Second, go to the configuration section and hit save config
Third, reboot the router for the new hostname to take affect.

Working on the MAC now.

OK, so the solution seems to be, install, reboot 3 or 4 times. Then change each
setting, one at a time, saving the config and rebooting between each change.
Then it seems stable. Getting happier with this.
