Right now the idea is inside the cockpit your controllers are your hands and the overlay gives you a HOTAS you can bind buttons/povs to anything on. So you just bind POVs to the UI bindings and grab the joystick. An alternative control method may be coming in the future.
Hm.. okay. Well right now I use the thumbstick on my right index controller to adjust power distribution, and the trackpad doesn't seem to be able to output anything different as far as I checked, they just output the same thing, so that doesn't leave enough for full menu navigation via left hand thumbstick only. I had assumed the intended menu operation within one's ship was to enter menu mode whenever you wanted to menu in the cockpit, since it didn't seem possible or convenient to do otherwise? I'll fiddle around, and see what I can find out with this new knowledge. Your explanation of POV1 and POV2 on the instruction pages still don't really make full sense to me yet.. so I went with what felt natural/intended.
No, menu mode is exclusively for the main menu and pause menu. It uses arrow keys and spacebar so you are able to navigate to the controls menu without softlocking yourself into a situation where you broke your bindings and are unable to use the overlay to fix them.
POV1/2 are on the joystick when you grab them and menu mode is off. There are two of them so if you have something other than an Oculus Touch/Cosmos/Reverb G2 you can bind navigation to one and tab to the other.
Okay, I see now, I've bound the power balance to the trackpad, and the UI navigation to the thumbstick, and it's definitely a big improvement!
I see that on the galaxy map, you can navigate tabs back and forth via the one of the hands, and navigate within those tabs by the other hand. My question is; why is this not so on the normal menu stuff?
I cannot for the life of me figure out the intended way to change tabs, for instance to request docking access at stations, or manage cargo in the cockpit. I tried to bind any UI steamvr_actions within the menu action set, but couldn't bind any UI actions within the "menu" action set, so I don't know how you manage to change tabs on the menus around your cockpit. My fix for now is to make the next tab button T, so that I can click the select target button and be able to change tabs one way, but that's super clunky and requires me doing double-takes each time I need to do more complex menuing.
I'm sure it's a super simple fix, just duplicate the actions of UITabPrevious and the UITabNext in the ui/galaxy map set, but put them in the menu action set instead.
Either that, or I'm somehow missing how to change tabs within the menus around your cockpit. I appreciate the amazing effort you put into this awesome overlay, and hope to hear back from you!
