You could just leave your browser pointed to the same address as it would be on
the iPhone.

That's not nearly as convenient, since I would end up with a window either
always open or expanding from the
dock every time I activate Safari.

I agree! I'll add it to the Stuff We Need page.

there's a free app called remote remote that allows you to control itunes from
another mac. Works really well.
(yea i know you're going for the all in 1 idea.)

I've written my own iTunes remote control, but I'd rather have a dashboard
widget and I'd rather have one thing
running on my iTunes mac. I'd also rather not wait for Leopard.
I know, picky, picky.

I may dabble into making an actual widget of this. However, for now you may
want to try the Shiaria (cant
remember the spelling of it) browser widget. You could then just resize it to
fit.
Regarding, Leopard and Dashcode... They have a beta for Tiger and that is what
I will be using.

I started playing around with DashCode and with Shiira mini (which is a widget
that is browser) and I am pretty
sure that widgets cannot support https. I am no expert. Heck, I am not even an
intermediate with widgets, but I
think that a request for a widget that is compatible with iPhone Remote just
isn't going to happen.

I made a simple iframe widget to try this out (before I initially asked), but
found that the frame was blank. I
expect that it's the auth that's blocking the widget, but I recall hearing
something about https not being
supported either. There's apparently no mechanism to ok the self-signed
certificate as well.
Since my controlled Mac is behind a firewall, I'm going to look at editing the
Apache setup file and turn off auth
and https.

OK. I am an idiot. HTTPS is supported. I should have checked it out first on
another https site that didn't have
the auth. So it is the auth that is causing the blank frame.

A widget would be good for the server daemon so it can run in the background
