Difficulty ramdom at hight levels #48

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. When your character get to Level 13 or so everyting is easy sevral monsters
keep a hard or very hard status namely Rabid fox claims to be very hard
2.The baskilith Claimed to be very easy but kill me in two hits

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
V 6.6 on android 2.1

Please provide any additional information below.

Yes I also mentioned the monster "hardness" is sometimes chosen bad.
Oskar, you could calculate it from the (calculated) XP value for the monster.
(perhaps the formula should also depend on the current level)

I propose this formula:
Hardness = XP * Scale / Level

Output:
Hardness <= 1 - very easy
Hardness  = 2 - easy
Hardness  = 3 - medium
Hardness  = 4 - hard
Hardness >= 5 - very hard

I think a Scale around 0.5 should work.

Workaround:
Get to level 17. There everything is easy ;-)

I believe the further you get in the maps and dungeons the harder the monsters
will be as they have been. One way to go about it could be level restrictions
on maps and quests. Quest givers could say "come back when you have more
experience"

I noticed that hardness is calculated on stats, not level. E.g. low level with
good equipment is sometimes better than the other way around (hint: die and
lose xp but you don't lose money)

I particularly liked "impossible" when encountering monsters with DR=3 and my
damage was 2-3 :)

Difficulty as displayed in the "do you want to attack ..?"-dialog box is
calculated dynamically based on the monster stats and the currently equipped
player stats. My (very brief) tests show that it separates "very easy" from
"very hard" sufficiently. For 0.6.6, I also added the "Impossible"-difficulty,
if the game determines that you have no way of hurting the monster.

Do you feel that the difficulty-calculation doesn't work? Could you give an
example of a situation where it displays the wrong difficulty, and what stats
the player and the monster has?

For example, i'm lvl 8 and small wasp are "very hard":
attack cost: 10AP
attack chance: 70%
attack damage: 1-2
life: 4

My stats:
attack cost: 3AP
attack chance: 90%
attack damage: 6
block chance: 11%
damage resistance: 1
life: 30

I think the bug came from damage resistance, since i have bought that armor,
difficulty level is KO

re comment 5: Thanks for the report, that sounds like something we should look
at. I am however unable to reproduce this with the given stats, for me the
small wasp gets "Very easy" when I create a character that has these stats. Are
you sure it is not -11% block chance or something like that? If you want me to
investigate furhter, could you please supply your savegame where you can
reproduce this? The savegame files are stored on your sd card.

Thanks again for the detailed report!

Thanks but this is not a savegame file. While in-game, press Menu and then
Save. Save to some slot that you can spare. Then check your sd card for the
directory "andorstrail", where your savegames are placed.

Plase also provide directions to how you can reproduce a monster encouter that
displays the wrong difficulty level.
