As pointed out by a user, for USA vs. Australia, Comparea shows
USA: Area: 9,147,593 km2 Census AUS: Area: 7,741,220 km2 World Factbook
The USA area is land area only, whereas the Australian area is land + water. Because Comparea shows land areas visually, it would be preferable to report land areas in the text as well.
