contact notaries alert doesn't show in Fx 5.0 #36

  1. Fx 5.0, new profile, perspectives 4.2
  2. set options: auto override sec errors: off, contact notaries: only errors, always ask: on
  3. go to https://www.sqlite.org/
  4. I see some vertical shifting/jerking of the error page as it opens, that indicates that perhaps the alert is rapidly auto closing, but regardless, in the end it's not there.

Hey @bughit,

Do you still get this error? I tried your repro steps (thanks for providing them!) with Fx 9.0.1 and don't get an alert, but I'm not sure if I should. The certificate I see for https://www.sqlite.org/ claims to be verified by GoDaddy, so perhaps they fixed their certificate since you first posted this.

I'll see if I can force Perspectives to view a certificate that gives a security error and check if this issue still happens.

On a tangential note, viewing https://www.sqlite.org/ with 'always contact notaries' turned on, or forcing a notary check for the site currently gives me a result that says Perspectives has not seen the certificate consistently, even though the graph looks good. I believe this is due to a bug that was fixed in 5bed131ee825da3b34fdfa3437a9a9616846f0c1 , which we're hoping to roll out soon. I also added a test case for that bug so it shouldn't reappear.

Hey @bughit - the alert about contacting notaries should be working fine by now. I'm going to close this as both Firefox and Perspectives have grown a lot since 2011, but please let us know if you are still having issues!
