This might be a consolekit issue; ensure that your ~/.xinitrc runs wmii like
this:
ck-launch-session wmii
Sound always worked fine in videos (in browser or otherwise) for me with wmii
since the beginning (2006).

wmii has no influence over sound production, and in any case
3.6 is ancient and unsupported.

wmii 3.6 is the version available for ubuntu with apt-get.

I tried downloading and installing these ...

Could not get them to compile.
