By henhouse (02 May 2010 - automatically ported issue):

If your pet dies and you release your spirit, come back, etc. You cannot cast 
"Revive Pet" it says you do not have a pet. If you cast "Call Pet" your pet 
appears, but dead. You then have to target him and cast "Revive Pet" in order 
for it to work.
It's suppose to not summon if it's dead and you have to cast Revive Pet to get 
him to come back alive.
