[Bug] Settings window is empty after the first time opening it in Thunderbird #8848

No website affected, only the extension UI

Bug Description

After installing Dark Reader I can change settings as expected, but only once. After the first time in the settings window, I always see a black window when clicking the "Dark Reader" button in the UI. (see screenshot below)

Restarting Thunderbird doesn't help, only removing the extension, restarting Thunderbird and installing the extension again allows opening the settings window once.

The extension itself works fine and does change colors, even following system dark mode when configured so, only the settings window breaks.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. install Dark Reader in Thunderbird
  2. check that it works (e.g. change the setting to let it follow system dark mode)
  3. try to open the settings menu a second time

Expected Behavior

The settings window should work.

Actual Behavior

The settings window is an empty black window.

Could you take a look at the other related Thunderbird issues: https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader/issues?q=is%3Aissue+Thunderbird the current support with Thunderbird is quite buggy(because of many weird behavior issues from Thunderbird).
