[Portable Thunderbird 38.7.2] No browsers shown #102

After updating the plugin on my USB stick (running Portable Thunderbird 38.7.2), I noticed that the Open With submenu was not showing any browsers. open with 2

I went into Open With options and found the previously-included browsers gone, and was unable to add any new ones -- the Add button did nothing. open with 1

I searched the forums to see if any other Thunderbird users experienced this, but got no hits. The plugin was working previously with this setup, prior to the previous update.

System Details: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit USB running PortableApps.com platform 13.0 Portable Thunderbird 38.7.2

Is there anything suspicious in the Error Console (on the Tools menu)? It looks like something has broken in the main module of Open With.

ishldgetoutmore commented 8 years ago

It says "Error: ReferenceError: openwith is not defined Source File: javascript:%20openwith Line: 1" There are actually quite a few errors. Is there some way for me to export all the errors? I'm not seeing a way to do that.

Thank you,

Roland Volz

Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to copy them all. I'm most interested in the earliest errors, which will be at the bottom (unless you've switched the order).

So, I believe an update occurred, because shortly after you wrote back, I saw the context menu again. Then, when I would select, for example, "Firefox Portable," it would give me an error that there was already an instance of Firefox running and I should close it if I wanted another one open.

Today, I thought I'd check it again, and now it works perfectly.

If no update has occurred in the interim, I'm wondering it has to do with the order in which the applications open from the PortableApps drive? I've got Firefox and Thunderbird Portable opening as soon as I start the PortableApps.com app. I also have Roboform2Go set to auto-start, and that links to the Firefox Portable. And the OpenWith plugin is loaded in Thunderbird. That's four loosely interrelated apps that start at almost the same time.

Then again, I'm not a programmer, so it's kind of like telling the doctor you think your symptoms correspond to this exotic disease you saw on Newsline.

TBH, I don't know enough about portable Fx/Tb to understand what sort of problems they might cause that wouldn't show up in the ordinary versions. It looks like your original problem might've been fixed by the latest update to Open With.

ishldgetoutmore commented 8 years ago

I was wondering if that was it. Looks like it took care of the main problem!

It's weird, though. Yesterday, it worked perfectly, but today it's giving me the "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition | PortableApps.com | Another instance of Firefox is already running. Please close other instances of Firefox before launching Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition" error again. I've made no changes to the settings in Mozilla. I don't think it's your plug-in's problem, but I thought you'd like to know.
