Attached is a preview of the syllabus. It looks lengthy (owing to lots of graphics), but rest assured the coursework will be manageable and exciting. As I've mentioned to students who have inquired in recent weeks:
No prerequisites: If anything, novices (when it comes to music, literature, media studies, and/or gaming) are especially welcome.
Even if the course concepts are brand new to you: so long as you come to class, play the required games, and do the readings, you have every opportunity to earn an A.
The class will feature a mix of lectures + discussions, along with musical guests (weekly live musical performances).
Because this is a rather large class, I'll be meeting with all of you in small sections throughout the term to get better acquainted. I'm setting myself the goal of learning all of your names by the middle of the fall.
No textbook needed. All readings will be available as PDFs on Canvas. All music will be available via SoundCloud playlists.
There are 2 TAs for the course
The class will likely meet in Dartmouth 105 (capacity of 186). With ~150 students at the moment, I'm raising the cap accordingly but reserving the ~30 remaining spots for incoming first-years (class of 2023), since they tend to receive the short end of the stick when it comes to registration.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions in the meantime. Otherwise, best wishes for the end of your school year, and have a great summer,
