We really enjoyed working together as a team and have all become good friends through the past two terms.
We delivered on our base project and found that the core idea appealed to users.
The software stack for our project makes sense and our project is scalable.
What did not work well:
We found that the product would likely not be easy to sell as a software to companies. After further research, we also don't think this product would be easy to monetize towards end users. At the end of the day, we think our project can prove to be useful as an information source and help educate users a la websites like Triplebyte and levels.fyi but probably won't be an independent company.
In the hopes of finding other use cases, we started and stopped working on a lot of new features but found that we experienced issue creep and veered away from our core product. In the end, after spending a lot of time talking to recruiters, other students, and people in industry, we found that it was best to stick to a simple to understand and easy to use app that could serve as an extra tool to help people decide.
Validation
Our original goal was to help 20 people visualize their financial future. We're happy to report that we exceeded our goals by over 150%! We reached 52 users (baring a few test accounts) and heard many anecdotes about our product being helpful.
For privacy reasons we have redacted personal information
Instead of putting up posters, we shared our project through campus organizations such as athletics teams and clubs. We found that for our early rollout, it was more helpful to advertise to those closer to us, as it was easier to collect feedback. We heard many great things about our our product, but also some helpful tips on aspects to improve.
Potential Next Steps
There are some further features that we could look into
Cost of living
Health care calculator
We might try to pitch to some accelerators
Aggregate user data to have realistic percentiles for how offers compare to others
Work on privacy policy so users feel safe sharing their offers
Make UI and usability improvements sourced from beta testers
Add accessibility to site
Final Takeaways
talk about any lessons learned, what could have been done differently, hopes for the future, what you really enjoyed
Overall, we gained positive reviews from our peers about our product and its purpose. We found that comparing and understanding offer letters was an important issue that many of our peers faced, and after testing, we can confidently say that we met this need.
As a team, we worked very well together and thoroughly enjoyed being on the project with one another. Through strong communication, we were able to share ideas and collaborate throughout the term which helped us with ideation and development.
In terms of what we could have done differnetly, we could have spent more time at the beginning of the first term setting out clear milestones and features that we wanted to create.
