This package depends on (depends, imports or suggests) raster and one or more of the retiring packages rgdal, rgeos or maptools (https://r-spatial.org/r/2022/04/12/evolution.html). Since raster 3.6.3
, all use of external FOSS library functionality has been transferred to terra, making the retiring packages very likely redundant. It would help greatly if you could remove dependencies on the retiring packages as soon as possible.
Thanks for the progress you are making. Please run reverse dependency checks, I think other packages (Rarefy does) ise data(africa)
which has changed. To check see https://github.com/r-spatial/sf/pull/2097.

that rgdal
, rgeos
and maptools
will be retired this
year, in October 2023.
phyloregion imports 'rgeos', 'rgdal' using rgeos::gBuffer
found by pkgapi
, in NAMESPACE, in R/sdm.R. Since raster
is used, terra::buffer
should match coercing from and to sp
classes. Please fix best by June, latest October 2023.
@darunabas @KlausVigo See also https://r-spatial.org/r/2023/05/15/evolution4.html. Please take urgent steps to resolve this issue. No positive changes appear in the repository. Less than three months remain to retain this package on CRAN.
From https://r-spatial.org/r/2022/04/12/evolution.html, you will be aware that rgdal, rgeos and maptools will retire soon. I think that migration to terra providing a GEOS interface, or sf, may work best for you. sp can still be used if required, but only with
_SP_EVOLUTION_STATUS_=2
to use GDAL through sf for transformation and CRS.
