@katcorr

I hope your weekend is going great!

I met with Susan Daniels, the associate in public speaking, last week to talk over my draft for the 3MT. She loved the flow and said that I did a great job at being both relatable and accessible to the audience and also making everyone feel like they could do something to contribute and be a part of this research. It was a bit long, though, but she gave me ideas for where I could cut down a bit and also sound more confident (not buffering my thoughts and just getting straight to the point!). She also emphasized that my voice and mannerisms can help me transition from one idea to the next or convey meaning, so we don't need some of the words or formal structure that's needed in writing.

It was a pretty difficult task of restraint (haha), but I managed to cut it down, and I'm able to read it in ~2:47 mins (so giving myself some room to speak slower or pause to emphasize some things or think, I'll probably manage to finish at ~2:54 ish?

I'm meeting with Susan again this coming week for coaching on finalizing the speech, making sure I'm emphasizing the right words for the most impact, speaking at a good pace, etc. I'll also rehearse with Susan in Stirn (~5 days before) and also at the dress rehearsal (the day before)! I'd love to leave the speech at a solid place so that I can focus on the thesis talks and then come back to memorize this in time for the rehearsals (just so I can make the most out of them)!

That being said, I'd love to get your thoughts on the speech, especially in terms of representing things appropriately: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QXutjLFnAn2DUKtVRB3ozlmnl4_AfyBUaO3sOrefXXI/edit?usp=sharing.

As part of our agenda on Tuesday, we can discuss your thoughts along with title slide ideas!
