Do a GitHub "Unfork" for better SEO and to be clear this is NOT bitcoin #5419

Dash is Digital Cash, not bitcoin and we shouldn't be associated ourselves with that. It just makes the project look bad.

How to un-fork a GitHub repository?

GitHub support can do this for you.

  1. Go to this link https://support.github.com/contact?tags=rr-forks
  2. Type in "unfork"
  3. Let the virtual assistant help you

They completed the process for me within 1 minute after that.

This is also probably better named dashcore as to be unambiguous that the binaries are not at all in conflict with dash, the shell typically used in Docker containers, embedded linuxes, etc.

Hi, Why is this issue still open? Would the unforking have any drawbacks? Peter

  1. The code we use is a fork of the code bitcoin uses. That's a fact. Bitcoin is a great invention and we build on top of that foundation bringing our own improvements (or inventions if you like). I don't see how admitting this fact suddenly makes our project look bad.
  2. Compare bitcoin#1234 (that's what you see when you have bitcoin#1234 somewhere in a text) vs the way it works in an unforked repo https://github.com/UdjinM6/dash_unforked/issues/1 (hint: it doesn't). We backport from bitcoin regularly and having such links in commit names and in PR descriptions makes it much easier to navigate to bitcoin issues/pull requests while reviewing changes.
  3. There are links to various repos at https://www.dash.org/contributing/. Now sure who needs searching for Dash repo on github, I find this use case highly doubtful. If we need to improve SEO we should probably do it there but even now googling for dash github gives me the right link in the 2nd/3rd position even though there are other projects that have "Dash" in their names. Googling for dashcore github gives me the right one at the top.

I think this description in the head of page (dashpay organization description?) is way too short for snippet/preview in websearch. @thephez can we write something extra there to make it longer and more eye-catching?

Because this label is short the snippets in Google/Bing look too short too: image image
