someone shared this by email:

Handy is the use of R-package "citr". After installing this package you get an entry "Insert citations" for it in RStudio addins menu. This function produces a Shiny app for interactive selecting a citation. More details in https://github.com/crsh/citr. Furthermore, for managing my references I'm using Zotero (https://www.zotero.org/ ) in combination with the plugin Better Bibtex (https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex ). Ilya Kashnitsky wrote a good article about using Zotero with RMarkdown, see https://ikashnitsky.github.io/2019/zotero/
