Repeat from https://github.com/data-lessons/library-sql/issues/38: We cannot assume that librarians a) have Firefox b) know Firefox c) have the admin rights to install Firefox
Okay. I realise - thanks @ostephens for the prompt! - that c) would be the same for SQLite and Firefox. I'm just worried about Firefox dependency hell. Where is the Data Carpentry discussion that justifies the use of a Firefox plugin. I don't want to reinvent the wheel.
Data Carpentry workshops often don't teach shell and don't expect learners to know it. I think this is why they chose to use Firefox plugin in their workshops.
Once a new solution to those has been found, revisiting the core concept in this issue sounds like it'd be useful.
Following a previous issue about better explanation of SQL installation, we suggest to avoid the 'SQLite download' by simply using the SQLite Manager plugin for the Firefox web browser; for instructions see also http://www.datacarpentry.org/sql-ecology-lesson/setup/ .
