Please delete the text below before submitting your contribution.

This pull request contains edits to the lesson suggested through a comment see link: https://github.com/datacarpentry/R-ecology-lesson/issues/778

Most of the edits to the section "Before we start" are based on the comments in the link above. I added a few of my own that I thought would make the text more readable plus others are to update information on channels where learners can get help for problems they face when using R e.g. the R4DS Slack channel.

Finally these lesson edits are part of my checkout process after recently completing the Carpentries Instructor Training.

Thanks for contributing! If this contribution is for instructor training, please send an email to instructor.training@carpentries.org with a link to this contribution so we can record your progress. I'm helping the current lesson Maintainers process outstanding pull requests on this repository, in preparation for transition to the new lesson infrastructure.

Thank you for this contribution @sgichuki. I agree that these changes make the lesson easier to understand. I have made a couple of small changes to your suggestions (including removing duplicate "the" and adjusting spaces around commas). I will go ahead and merge this PR now. Sorry for the delay in reviewing your contribution.
