tracking lesson contributors #22

Suggested by @lwasser

It's good to know who has contributed to lessons, but the current practice of adding names to the top of each lesson isn't working very well. Also, it's difficult to know who should be in that list.

Perhaps instead we should have the lesson maintainers listed at the top and then a list of the contributors at the bottom, with that list of contributors auto-generated from github PRs and commits.

There could also be auto-generated pages for each contributor, so you could look at that person's page to see what they've contributed. This could also be a page that a person could link to be able to show all their work on lesson development in one place.

Software Carpentry keeps an AUTHORS file in each lesson repo and updates from the Git history before each release - would that work?

lwasser commented 8 years ago

@gvwilson how does the authors file build?

We use https://pypi.python.org/pypi/update-copyright/ built by @wking
