Quality assurance: Excel refuse to validate data on CSV file. #89

Open Carreau opened 5 years ago

Carreau commented 5 years ago

the Quality assurance section suggest to open the clean CSV and apply Validation Rules. Excel will refuse to do that until the CSV is re-saved as xlsx.

As we don't really use CSV until later, could/should(?) the default file be an XLSX ?

chris-prener commented 5 years ago

My preference would be to continue to use .csv files but include language that it must be re-saved as this point to run the validation process. What version of Excel are you using, @Carreau, and what OS?

Carreau commented 5 years ago

Excel 16.25 (latest) and mac 10.14 (latest), we are teaching this lesson in a few minutes, so will see if this is a local issue and report back.

Great, thanks @Carreau!

Carreau commented 5 years ago

Well, that literally depend on Excel mood. My computer now is happy, but one of the attendee (out of 12) had the issue during the workshop (on windows this time). It likely a case of "can't print on Tuesday"... so I guess we can close, or maybe just have an advisory for instructors this might happen

Thanks for the update, @Carreau - curious behavior indeed. I think adding something to the instructor notes for this lesson is the best strategy. Could you perhaps try to get the behavior to occur again and take some screenshots? That would be really helpful for us as we update the instructor notes accordingly!

Screenshot won't help. Clicking the button to bring the validation dialog just does nothing. The dialog refuses to pop up.

The button is not grayed or anything, it just does not trigger the dialog to pop up.

The rest of the UI works fine.
