Linking facilities research to records in scientific databases #70

Open vasilyb opened 6 years ago

As a facility User Office interested in measuring the facility impact, or as a reviewer of research proposals (who evaluate applications for facility beamtime), or as a funder who supports the facility with public money or industrial contribution, I am interested in linking facility awards (beamtime) with structured records in renowned scientific databases, such as biomedical or crystallography databases. Ideally, these links and measures should be as granular as possible: what database record(s) resulted from what particular facility award(s).

We want EMBL to help STFC to develop this user story. Connections between facility awards and biomedical databases can be of interest to the Diamond syncrtotron radiation source co-funded by STFC and Wellcome Trust; biomedicine is a big topic in Diamond. A good news is that Diamond support a well-curated publications database that captures links between publications and facility awards. So the EMBL role would be to help STFC to link that Diamond bibliography to PubMed and similar sources.

The EBI are definitely interested in collaborating on this user story: We're thinking of linking Diamond facility beam time > an EBI database > publications. There is potential for some retrospective linking. Linking current beam time awards >data> paper might take too long for the FREYA timescale
