Provenance in core services #98

Closed richardhallett closed 5 years ago

For WP 2.2 there is a requirement to build provenance into core services. To aid in this it would be useful to understand what existing provenance use cases there are, how others are implementing, and ways forward.

This issue is to track the potential use cases.

Herbert van der Sompel from DANS has shared an example of how he implemented provenance in his PIDapalooza presentation https://myresearch.institute/event/6115e16e53c8444faeef8dfbf0527e13/ and then follow link to https://myresearch.institute/tracker/event/6115e16e53c8444faeef8dfbf0527e13/

Additionally we probably want to be modelling based on starting with https://www.w3.org/TR/prov-o/ However we need to consider how to implement this and what would the best approach to be.

Two possible use cases would be:

  1. Provenance for Data - Given a DOI show me who authored the data from the metadata i.e. creator.

  2. Provenance for Events (Event Data) - Given an Event ID show me when the event was created and by whom.
