fixes and improvements to tutorial
add option to launch on binder, click here to launch this PR branch:
render notebook to markdown because GitHub notebook rendering is slow and broken
add notebooks make target for rendering notebooks to markdown, to modify the notebooks, need to modify the ipynb file and then render to markdown
