We need to choose a name! #2

Although we want to make something super modular, we need an overarching name for this project that doesn't clash with, like, everything (https://www.thedatalab.com, https://cloud.google.com/datalab/docs/, https://datalab.apache.org, http://www.thedatalab.org, https://pypi.org/project/datalab/).

I quite liked "alembic" at one point, though it turns out that almost all alchemical equipment names are taken by SQLAlchemy and related spin-offs...

Rubbish suggestions:

Something about amber and preserving your data with context, can also riff off the Greek/Latin root for amber of elektron/electrum or even the Phoenician "jainitar"

Copal, apparently an intermediate between resin and amber - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copal

ChatGPT's attempt at helping us: ``` openai@ml-evs.science Hello Mr Chat GPT sir, I am trying to come up with a name for a software project of mine. It is a data management system for experimental materials chemistry research, developed at the University of Cambridge. We quite like the theme of "amber" and related words in English and other languages: "copal", "jainitar", "glaer". Invoking the concept of preserving data in amber fits quite nicely with what our software does. Could you please prepare a list of alternative names for us, preferably ones that are not taken by other codes? Sure, here are a few alternative names for your software project that incorporate the theme of "amber": Ambrata - A combination of "amber" and "data" CopalCore - Incorporates "copal" and "core," emphasizing the central role of the software in managing experimental data JainiVault - Uses "jainitar" and "vault" to convey the idea of a secure, preserved repository for data GlaerGuard - Combines "glaer" and "guard" to suggest protection and preservation of data AmberArchive - Simple and straightforward, it emphasizes the preservation aspect of the software. AmberEcho - Playing with the word amber and echo, emphasizing on the data being stored and the ability to recall the data when needed. AmberLock - Simple and effective, it emphasizes the security and protection aspect of the software. AmberKeep - Simple and powerful, it emphasizes the preservation aspect of the software and the role of keeping the data safe and secure. AmberPreserve - Simple and elegant, it emphasizes the preservation aspect of the software and the role of maintaining the data. AmberGenie - Playing with the word amber and genie, emphasizes the ability to recall and access stored data at will, just like a genie. Please keep in mind that these names are suggestions and may be already taken by other projects. It's always a good idea to do a quick search online to see if the names are available for use. openai@ml-evs.science Can you suggest any that aren't crap please? I apologize if some of the suggestions were not to your liking. Here are a few alternative names that may be more suitable for your software project: Data amber: Simple, straightforward, and emphasizes the theme of "amber" and data management. AmberSave: Incorporates "amber" and "save" to suggest preservation and security of data. Amber Vault: Simple and straightforward, emphasizes the idea of a secure and protected repository for data. AmberPreserver: Incorporates "amber" and "preserver" to suggest preservation and protection of data. AmberLabs: Incorporates "amber" and "labs" to suggest experimental and cutting-edge research in data management. AmberSentry: Incorporates "amber" and "sentry" to suggest protection and surveillance of data. AmberFortress: Incorporates "amber" and "fortress" to suggest security and protection of data. AmberSafe: Simple and straightforward, emphasizes the idea of keeping data safe and secure. AmberData: Simple and straightforward, emphasizes the theme of "amber" and data management. AmberWatch: Incorporates "amber" and "watch" to suggest surveillance and protection of data. Please note that these names are still suggestions and may be already taken by other projects, it's always a good idea to do a quick search online to see if the names are available for use. openai@ml-evs.science I was hoping to go a bit more abstract than simple portmanteaus of amber and data. Maybe some more context will get your creative juices going. Our code preserves the links between data, and the context in which it was created. This is exclusively scientific data related to battery materials and sustainability, so feel free to include battery, energy and chemistry related terms alongside old or more obscure terms for amber and related minerals (ammolite, copal etc.). Rather than a list of ten, think about it for a while and get back to me with the three ideas you think I might like the most. I apologize for misunderstanding your request earlier. Here are three potential names that incorporate the themes of "amber," energy, chemistry, and data preservation: AmmoliteLink: Incorporates "ammolite," a type of fossilized amber, and "link," suggesting the preservation of connections between data. CopalChain: Incorporates "copal," a type of tree resin, and "chain," suggesting the preservation of a sequence of data and connections between data. GlaerGrid: Incorporates "glaer," an Old English word for amber, and "grid," suggesting organization and preservation of data in a structured manner. These names are more abstract and aim to convey the idea of preserving links between scientific data related to battery materials and sustainability, and the context in which it was created. They also incorporate the theme of "amber" and related minerals (ammolite, copal etc.) and chemistry related terms. Please note that these names may be already taken by other projects, it's always a good idea to do a quick search online to see if the names are available for use. openai@ml-evs.science This is more like it! One benefit of our code is that the data does not have to have a well-defined structure, so it could use more semantic web technologies like graph data models and triples. Give it another go, and please include your own suggestions for words related to amber (rather than just using my own examples!) Just shout examples this time (in all caps), no need for the explanation, and say them as soon as they come to you! Sure, here are three potential names that incorporate the themes of "amber," energy, chemistry, and data preservation with a focus on semantic web technologies and graph data models. AMBERGRAPH COPALNET AMBERTRIPLES Please note that these names may be already taken by other projects, it's always a good idea to do a quick search online to see if the names are available for use. openai@ml-evs.science These are basically the same as before! What other words are related to amber outside of the ones you have already mentioned? Sure, here are a few words related to amber: Resinite Succinite Simetite Glessite Electrum Lignite Kauri Chrystalline Copalite Fossil resin Please note that some of these words may not be directly related to amber but can be used to create a name that evokes the theme of amber or amber-like materials. It's always a good idea to do a quick search online to check the definition and context of the words used in your project name. openai@ml-evs.science Another 10, but in all caps, go! Sure, here are ten more words related to amber that you can use to create a name for your software project: AMBERITE BALTICAMBER AMBEROID AMBERIFEROUS AMBERIFY AMBERGRIS AMBERINA AMBEROLE AMBERLITE AMBEROIDAL Please note that some of these words may not be directly related to amber but can be used to create a name that evokes the theme of amber or amber-like materials. It's always a good idea to do a quick search online to check the definition and context of the words used in your project name. openai@ml-evs.science Try 10 more that don't include the substring "amber" as part of the word Sure, here are ten more words that are related to amber, but don't include the substring "amber" as part of the word: RESINITE SUCCINITE SIMETITE GLESSITE ELECTRUM LIGNITE KAURI CHRYSTALLINE COPALITE FOSSIL RESIN Please note that some of these words may not be directly related to amber but can be used to create a name that evokes the theme of amber or amber-like materials. It's always a good idea to do a quick search online to check the definition and context of the words used in your project name. openai@ml-evs.science And another 10, with the same constraint, if you please? Sure, here are ten more words that are related to amber, but don't include the substring "amber" as part of the word: POLYTRAHEDRITE GEOCHEMISTRY PALAEONTOLOGY PYROXENE INCLUSIONS AMBERIFIER AMBEROPHYLLITES AMBERPETROLOGY AMBERIFICATION AMBERGENESIS Please note that some of these words may not be directly related to amber but can be used to create a name that evokes the theme of amber or amber-like materials. It's always a good idea to do a quick search online to check the definition and context of the words used in your project name, and also to check if the name is available for use. openai@ml-evs.science But those words do contain the substring "amber". It's okay to admit defeat, you know. I'd rather you just say you can't think of any others. I apologize for the confusion, you're right that the words provided in the previous message contain the substring "amber". I apologize if I was not able to come up with more ideas that don't include the substring "amber" as part of the word. I am a language model and while I have a vast amount of data to draw from, I may not be able to think of a specific word that would fit your project name. However, I would like to suggest that you could use these words as inspiration for your project name and combine them with other words that you like, to make it unique. Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. openai@ml-evs.science There's no need to apologise, the reason I am asking you is because I can't do it myself! I understand, coming up with a name for a project can be a challenging task. In that case, you can try to think about the main features of your software project and try to find words that reflect those features. You can also think about the goal of your project and what it aims to accomplish, and use words that reflect that goal. Another approach is to think of related fields or industries that your software project could be useful in and find words that reflect those fields or industries. You can also try to come up with a name that is easy to remember and pronounce, and that has a positive connotation. Lastly, you can try to use a thesaurus or a word generator to come up with new ideas and inspiration. Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. openai@ml-evs.science Okay, last chance, given the rest of our conversation, what name would you recommend we choose for our software package? I know you can't strictly have an opinion, but one of your suggestions (or a new one) is firing some artificial neurons for you Based on our conversation and the themes of your software project, which includes preserving data in amber and related minerals, semantic web technologies, graph data models, and scientific data related to battery materials and sustainability, I would recommend the name "AMBERGRAPH" as it encapsulates the theme of preserving data in amber as well as the use of graph data models. It's a catchy and easy to remember name, and it also reflects the idea of preserving data in a meaningful way. Please keep in mind that this is just a suggestion and you may want to check the availability of this name and any other name you choose, as well as run it by your team and see if they like it. Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. ```

I think we can finally say that this ship has sailed... datalab has endured, but we can still have lots of fun trying to name specific plugins and offshoots.
