Next steps - planning for v4 #225

We're planning for v4 to be a major next step in the evolution of Data Populator. Our thinking currently revolves around:

A brand-new UI/UX to eliminate the need for complex syntax in layer names
A unified platform for managing and manipulating data sources to make finding the right data easier
A more stateful approach to selecting data sources for particular layers/groups

These are the core ideas but we'll update this issue as we get closer to v4 and the feature set is defined.

We'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions!

Would be amazing to have a new UI (text field) for setting the object keys for layers, instead of using layer name for an object key. Otherwise it makes layer list unreadable, this is especially bad for the Symbols.

I tried to edit the code, but this is way to complex for me 😅

Here's a suggestion that I think would help designers a ton: For times when a JSON or API isn't publicly available, support fetching a URL and populating the data via CSS selectors.

this has been implemented with v4.0.0 of the XD version of the plugin.
