Hi @rycoley, I had some ideas on reorganizing CONTRIBUTING.md a bit and wanted to see if this works for you or if you have any feedback.
Also, just a couple call outs:
The new "Table of Contents" adds a bit more work for future maintenance (e.g. if a section is added/removed), but I thought the benefits outweigh that potential extra work.
Currently CONRIBUTING.md is not rendered/included in the website. This is unlike the "License" and "Code of Conduct", which are rendered and included in the website footer. Do you think it makes sense to include "Contributing" there in the footer as well? Or going the other way, remove "License" or "Code of Conduct" from the website?
