Fix for changing nav height issue (alternate) #82

Fixes the changing nav height brought up in issue #30. This PR supersedes the prior approach from PR #81.

The Netlify build is failing (which seems to be a separate issue, the deploy log cites an API rate limit issue), but the last working deploy preview shows the fix still:
