this overhauls our look, building on the wonderful kross theme

How can I help finish this? It doesn't currently render on my comp but at least the first error message looks straightforward:

WARN 2019/10/23 16:09:31 found no layout file for "HTML" for "home": You should create a template file which matches Hugo Layouts Lookup Rules for this combination.

don't want to dive in if you have anything local you're already working on

Quick update on this, I've put some time into cleanup & think we're getting close to needing review. I'll try to put some time into this tomorrow & will report back
