Forward emails from other language domains? #579

@milotype suggested that we should also accept emails from the other language domains. See the linked discussion for more details.

Regardless, I agree that it would be good to have an explicit hint that we can only respond to emails in English or German.

* As for the emails, we don't localize those and sending an email to @osobnipodaci.org will actually not work and result in an error. That is intentional as no-one on our team speaks Croatian and we thus wouldn't be able to respond to those emails.

IMO, you could use the and other specific (language) domain names for thata matter, as the domain extensions do not insist/do not directly imply the usage a specific language whatsoever. Instead use an "informational text" about used languages for communication. Don't hide such information in a "tooltip", but add a readable text instead. Something like: ("Please contact us in English or German, otherwise we might be unable to understand your request.") P.S. I do not insist on this ... please consider it simply as an suggestion/feature request ...

I'd be happy to answer emails in Spanish for solicituddedatos.es, if we ever get any. Not sure if you have anything setup for that domain email-wise.

baltpeter commented 3 years ago

@fm Thank you very much for the offer! That would be great.

However, I see some potential problems from a data protection perspective there… If people send emails to one of the 'general' email addresses, they probably expect them to go to board members only.

Two ideas on how we could tackle that:

Pinging @zner0L: what do you think?

fm commented 3 years ago

I wouldn't mind option 2

* We could give you a separate `faisal@` email and then say on the contact page that people can either contact us in English or you in Spanish.

Why English or Spanish? It's a German domain!

IMO, the priority should be:

  1. German
  2. English
  3. Spanish
  4. Other languages if applicable

Because of the above, I'd like to change my former proposal about informing the user about languages to: Please contact us in German or English. (Specify other languages if applicable. Make the string translatable!!)

fm commented 3 years ago

The priority already is

  1. German
  2. English

I was offering to help with emails in Spanish given I translated it to Spanish and am also a member of the organization. No need to be harsh about it ;)

milotype commented 3 years ago

@fm My reply wasn't meant to be harsh! I'm sorry!

(Specify other languages if applicable. Make the string translatable!!)

Unfortunately, we still don't have a way to make the content pages translatable through Weblate. But they can of course be edited through this repo.

Sorry for leaving this unanswered! I think we should talk about this in a board session and then maybe have a chat with you, @fm?

fm commented 3 years ago

Sounds good - whatever you all decide!

Going though open issues, did you folks decide on anything re: this?
