AZURE ISSUE : #55698

Acceptance Criteria

Tasks

sagargg-zz commented 3 years ago

@anuveyatsu Not sure how integrating GA extension will address this acceptance cretira. I guess GA reports don't explain how users using the datasets, it just gives you download trends. Please clarify? cc @osahon-okungbowa

osahon-okungbowa commented 3 years ago

@sagargg good point. I will inform the client of this and ask that the title/acceptance criteria be modified. the correct title should be "The dataset owner should be able to track how users are downloading their datasets"

osahon-okungbowa commented 3 years ago

@sagargg This issue has been renamed on the DevOps board. See https://iaeabss.visualstudio.com/IAEA%20Data%20Platform/_workitems/edit/55698 I believe we can now install the GA extension and the Acceptance Criteria is acceptable Cc @anuveyatsu

sagargg-zz commented 3 years ago

@osahon-okungbowa Thanks but again title itself is not clear enough to know whether GA extension address acceptance criteria or not but what I understand from the meeting, the user story is As a data owner, I'm able to see the trends/numbers of dataset downloads so that I understand the download pattern of the datasets.

Let me know if I understand wrong.

osahon-okungbowa commented 3 years ago

@sagargg your understanding is correct... and your user story is accurate.

anuveyatsu commented 3 years ago

@sagargg @osahon-okungbowa sounds like user story you have is not very accurate. How do you imagine sharing GA data with data owners? I believe only Data Portal owners can have access to it as it provides analytics data about all pages. My understanding is that data owners should have access to analytics related to their dataset only.

osahon-okungbowa commented 3 years ago

@anuveyatsu @sagargg my understanding is that with GA enabled, there is a downloaded stat attached to datasets which gets updated whenever a dataset is downloaded. Is that understanding wrong? If yes, then let's sync on this and get on the same page about how the GA extension will work

sagargg-zz commented 3 years ago

@anuveyatsu @osahon-okungbowa I guess we all have a different understanding on this requirement. I thought we are sharing GA reports directly.

I spend some hours checking whether GA gives download stats on CKAN datasets page. I found the documentation related to that but it looks like that feature is deprecated. https://github.com/ckan/ckanext-googleanalytics#setting-up-statistics-retrieval-from-google-analytics
