Unresponsive on lubuntu16.04.1 #73

HI, Today I installed clantk using Lubuntu software center included with Lubuntu (LDXE) 16.04.1 LTS, up to date with Linux kernal 4.4.0-53 x86_64, 3 GB ram, pentium dual cpu@2.20GHz, 300 GB HD. Restarted several times, and uninstalled and reinstalled once. Problem is clicking on an item does not open it. Click will cause highlighting of item, but no more. Settings unavailable. Updates not available.(Bottom of Scanner window states, highlighted in yellow, that an update is available). Scan a File not available. Nothing responds to single or double clicks, except Help files and About button. Right click does nothing. Mouse over will bring up hints. Updating via terminal results in: xxxxx@xxxxxsLinuxHP:~$ sudo freshclam [sudo] password for xxxxx: ERROR: /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log is locked by another process ERROR: Problem with internal logger (UpdateLogFile = /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log).

I've been using this system for many months, browsing the internet, researching topics, watching videos, reading books, etc with satisfying results. Never had this type of non-responsiveness. Suggestions welcome.

Hi,

I think there are two things going on.

  1. You probably want single-click on the interface, so go into Settings and ensure "Double click icons to activate" is NOT selected.
  2. For updates - by default, ClamAV only allows root to update signatures. If you'd like to update them yourself, use the "Update Assistant" and select the bottom option ("I would like to update...") and click "Apply". Then you can use the GUI to update signatures by clicking on the "Update" button.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the quick response. Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I previously set Lubuntu preferences for single click opening. I only mentioned double clicking to let you know I tried it just in case.

Clicking on "Settings" in the Virus Scanner" window doesn't open anything. Clicking on "Update Assistant" does nothing. None of the icons do anything. It's like its dead. I'm using version 5.20. I notice closed issue #64 was the same problem. I did what you suggested. Typing "clamtk" in terminal opened a new virus scanner application window. Typing "sudo apt-get install -f" produced a very large amount of data, as follows:

Sorry about that. Looks like that cleaned up a lot of unneeded files, but did not find any missing dependencies. What terminal command would update the signatures? ...run a scan? According to Symantic I have installed clamav, clamav-base, clamav-freshclam, and clamtk. There's lots of other clam stuff in that list!?! Any other ideas to bring the app to life?

Hi Jerry,

Can you pop open a terminal window and type "clamtk" (no quotes)? Let me know if any error messages or anything shows up when you try to use it.

Hi Dave, I typed "clamtk" in a terminal , hit enter, next thing I see is the Virus Scanner window. None of the icons are live or active. No error message or any other message in terminal. Thanks, Jerry BTW- This may or may not be pertinent, but I realized that one other app is unresponsive in Lubuntu. I added Desktop Search, but it is unresponsive to search querys.

Try taking a look at your system logs. Like you said, there could be a bigger issue here.

Found the cause: the ui requires 'double click' by default on each button to work.

This can be changed in the 'settings': image
