Vertical mode support #4

It has been mentioned (and I agree) that vertical mode support would be nice. For this, it would be desirable to rework the sidebar into something more space-efficient (so 1/4 of the screen isn't taken up by settings most of the time).

It would also presumably be necessary to rework the application intro page.
