Hi Ryvix,
I've been out of the WordPress world for a few years now and am not really interested in getting back into it. As a result, I haven't kept up with any maintenance on the plugin. I'm sure some best practices, security policies, and other things have changed thereby invalidating the plugin for use currently.
I'll gladly transfer the project to you if you wish to maintain it.
Hello,
Thanks for your quick response!
I completely understand. Hmm, I guess I do wish to maintain it, since I really liked it. I thought it was well designed and it did exactly what I wanted and seemed to work great the last time I used it. I just don't know what the issue was with it so I'm not completely sure what I should do. Maybe I can find out what happened somehow by contacting someone at WP. Or maybe I'll just have to get into the code and see if I can rewrite it a bit according to their guidelines and see if that helps.
I should mention that I don't currently have any plugins hosted on wordpress.org, although I have created plugins and themes for clients and modified a lot of existing ones, etc. and plan to someday publish my own plugins there, I haven't gone over all their requirements yet and don't know exactly what I would have to do from here. It does seem like it would be a good experience though. I'm just not quite sure what the right steps to take would be, especially since I don't know exactly what the issue with the plugin is.
I have tested the plugin and it actually seemed to work fine for me on the latest version of WP. I didn't see any sort of shady things in the code, but maybe there were things they just didn't like. If there was a security flaw somewhere I couldn't find any listed on any vulnerability sites anywhere. Maybe if I contact the right person at wordpress.org they'll be able to help me with more info.
You don't have to answer this part but I'm just curious, is there something else you've moved onto that's better than WP, or any particular reason that you wouldn't mind sharing with me?
Thanks!
Here's the Developer Information page for plugins: https://wordpress.org/plugins/developers/
In order to add you as a contributor, I need your WP.org username or email.
They still use SVN for version control so you'll have to commit the changes there. This repo on GitHub is just a copy.
I've since moved on to building web applications on top of Symfony and Laravel.
Beware that you have to keep the core and all plugins constantly up to date with WP or your site will inevitably be hacked.
Awesome, thank you!
I setup an account there, my username is ryvix
Added you as a comitter to the plugin. Let me know if that allows you to get started.
Thank you! Hmm, I'm not sure if it worked though or not yet. I didn't get any emails and can't see anything different anywhere. Maybe I can figure out how to commit to the SVN and see if it affects anything. If not maybe I would just have to start a new project that isn't closed or contact them for more info as to not bother you anymore. Thank you for your help and making this plugin available!
Hi there,
I wonder if you have a second if you could tell me why this was removed from wordpress.org.
I noticed this plugin was no longer available on wordpress.org due to a Guideline Violation. Would you be able to tell me what the issue was exactly? I really liked this plugin and used it occasionally. I guess it wasn't updated in awhile but that usually isn't why plugins get removed I don't think. Was it insecure in some way?
If I knew what the issue was maybe I could fix it and send the fix.
Any other similar plugin I find seems to be too bloated or not quite what I'm looking for. I just want to be able to use my own short domain and edit the URL on the post edit screen like this plugin does, without all the extra junk or third party services.
