YouTube abandoned the subscription grid view. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Not working anymore? #91

Hi. So, I cleared my cache sometime today to troubleshoot something and now, YT SaneGrid doesn't work anymore. I enter my username (which exists) and press "OK". It flashes to the page but then comes back to the welcome page saying "Account Not Found". I saw, for a split seconds, some new videos in my feed. Sometimes longer. In other words, the feed doesn't stay on.

Something's wrong.

Please fix. My script for a better start page doesn't work anymore.

Lebon14 commented 10 years ago

And somehow, it fixed itself... somehow. Unless pressing the "Watched" button at the bottom before it blinks back to the welcome screen counts as a solution.

KMCharityTeam commented 10 years ago

Doesn't work for me either, on any browser. I put in my username, click okay and it briefly shows a toolbar at the bottom which disappears and I am left stuck on the intro screen,no matter how many times I click Ok. I can't fix it by clicking on any of the briefly appearing buttons because they don't do anything.

Drendude commented 10 years ago

I'm having the exact same problem. It's been about 9 hours since I first tried it, and it still hasn't fixed itself. I've tried clicking all of the buttons that appear so briefly, but they don't do anything.

daviddeutsch commented 10 years ago

I still havent really figured this one out, I certainly cannot reproduce it and it would be weird if it just broke without me actually changing something.

If anybody has any clues, that would be greatly appreciated!

KMCharityTeam commented 10 years ago

I've worked out what it is and I feel silly. I didn't notice that after I clicked the Ok! button, it tells you exactly what's wrong underneath, but it's in standard writing so I didn't notice it.

There was a warning that my subscriptions are set to private and it told me how to change them. I then made my subscriptions public and it works now! Perhaps you need to make 'errors' a bit more foolproof for fools like me, perhaps make the text box have red writing, or flash so that people notice it. I love the subs replacement by the way, it's so useful, thank you!

Lebon14 commented 10 years ago

Originally, when I used the page for the first time, I got that error. I fixed it then it worked. The problem I got here is knowing that my subs were public already. It simply flashed and went back to the "Enter Username" page. ANyway.

Tbh, I'm only using SaneGrid has a backup option to the YT Startpage script. It has been abandon by the author (lack of time, it seems). It still works but it's much more reliable than SaneGrid. SaneGrid has the same problem than YT: Some new subs videos doesn't show up. I remember seeing, for exemple, episode 8 of a let's play show up but then, only episode 11 shows up afterward. With my startpage script, I had episode 9 and 10 show up perfectly.

Anyway. Later

daviddeutsch commented 10 years ago

@KMCharityTeam Ah! Alright, that was an easy one to solve, then. And yes, error reporting could be more userfriendly.

@Lebon14 Interesting. Do you have a link for this? Maybe there is something I can incorporate. Oh and: Any script will be bound to problems by the YT API, so there is really only so much I can do to try and fight problems. If my code gets crappy data from YT, I can't really make it much better without doing my own server polling, looking at channels html pages or whatnot.

Drendude commented 10 years ago

I'm still having the original problem of getting the error "Account Not Found" even though I'm typing in my username exactly as it is on YT. I have checked all my settings; my subs are shared.

daviddeutsch commented 10 years ago

@Drendude You're sure it's not this thing? (just checking)

Lebon14 commented 10 years ago

It has been a while since then. But let's see. Here's an image of the first line of subs I have using your page: sanegrid_missing There are TONS of video missing. NintendoCapriSun has uploaded episode 2 of Dragon Warrior Yesterday (Jan. 17). NakaTeleeli has uploaded two other videos after those two Persona 3 ones. Episode 13 of New Super Luigi U is missing from TheRunawayGuys. Freezerburns uploaded another video today. I'm only scratching the surface.

Here are the last 10 videos that were uploaded, according to My Subscription page. "Dancing with primals - Pharos Sirius" by NakaTeleeli (Jan. 18; ~3:00pm) ("31 minutes ago") "New Super Luigi U Episode 13" by TheRunawayGuys (Jan. 18; ~1:00pm) ("3 hours ago") "Smash Bros. Melee Versus - Episode 12 [All-Star Mode] " by versus (Jan. 18; ~1:00pm) ("3 hours ago") "Let's Play Wario Land II - #5. The A-MAZE-ing Woods" by SlimKirby (Jan. 18; ~9:00am) ("7 hours ago") "Late Night Diner Dessert!" by Freezerburns (Jan. 18; ~7:00am) ("8 hours ago") "Let's Play Dragon's Crown [23] Harpy Problems" by NakaTeleeli (Jan. 18; ~1:00am) ("14 hours ago") "Dragon Warrior Part 2: Scary Cave Music" by NintendoCapriSun (Jan. 17) ("1 day ago") "Let's Play Paper Mario - #27. The Yoshisitter's Club" by SlimKirby (Jan. 17) ("1 day ago") "Heinz Home Style Soup Pot Roast Vegetable Video Review: Freezerburns (Ep618)" by Freezerburns (Jan. 17) ("1 day ago") "Let's Play Persona 3 FES [70] Use for charm 2/2" by NakaTeleeli (Jan. 17) ("1 day ago")

As you can see with the end of the list, your page is... 1 day late. In other words, it'll catch up 1 day later. (Compared to the image, as you can see the last two videos of the list on it).

So, yeah...

Lebon14 commented 10 years ago

The image was the first line of subs when I first loaded the page. I reloaded and the rest of the videos I listed appearead. I don't know why but should your page have loaded them in the first place? That's kind of unreliable if you ask me.

g-rocket commented 10 years ago

@Lebon14 I think the problem is that it's showing some old videos first. This always happens to me and, if you scroll down you'll see your new videos after 4-8 or so old ones. Also, as you found out, reloading makes the old videos not show at the top anymore.

My old videos are about a month old, the same age as the videos at the bottom of the page. How old are the videos at the bottom of the page for you?

Lebon14 commented 10 years ago

@g-rocket Top: Today Bottom: 2 months. (From most recent to older)
