The account require an approval because we have decided with the team to set a gate at the entrance of the calendar. The function is to reduce spam with events that are not about CI and also to know a bit more about the user that is adding the contents.
So yes, the first time the approval requires a bit of time, but it's just once this waiting gap.
At the moment after 6 months the calendar is online we didn't get any spam yet.
Ok, so maybe we could keep approval requirement, but give newcomers ability to post events immediately after signup, just don't show this data until account approved? And also add social network signup/login. I suppose it could greatly raise newcomers experience.
It can be an idea but for me it's not priority at the moment. With the team we have a long agenda in the meetings and I don't feel to add this topic and open the discussions now. I would leave the topic open and re-evaluate in a while.
Maybe I could work on it. I could implement social networks login first. I have strong intention to do it because I'm in China now and I would like to support local community. Now ci global calendar is quite useless in China because it don't have Chinese translation (already working on it) and it's far away from what Chinese people used to. (they have wechat auth for everything and could start to use it immediately)
Hi Mico, I have to discuss this with the team, we can't add this function without their agreement. The prospective to make it more usable for China is interesting.
The cinese translation can be a good first step.
First time when I wanted to add information about CI event it takes a lot of time to start using this service. Mostly because I have to wait until my account would be approved. But also dealing with email / password taking time. So I also suggest to think about approval process. If we have social network signup then chances we will get massive spam is almost zero, so we could approve social network signups immediately, but we can mark it to check by administrator and refuse or mark it checked. We can start with adding facebook / google / wechat (I plan to make this platform more available in China)
