This simplifies some LaTeX markup (dfrac → frac, mathscr → cal, colour aqua → blue, cases → \left\{ \array{} ... \right . to allow the PDF versions of the manual to get built.

PS note that we might also want to avoid LaTeX markup in titles of man pages (e.g. "{\tilde Y}1(x{\rm f}) (vector version)"; these don't get rendered nicely in HTML, and only partly rendered in PDF [the tilde gets rendered, but not the subscripts]
