If the issue arises again could you please include the output of the locale
command? Thanks.
Will do. I ended up editing the aptsources by hand... Here's the locale output from the machine that exhibited the problem:
LANG=en_US
LANGUAGE=en_US:
LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC="en_US"
LC_TIME="en_US"
LC_COLLATE="en_US"
LC_MONETARY="en_US"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US"
LC_PAPER="en_US"
LC_NAME="en_US"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US"
LC_ALL=
Any help appreciated. I've tried google-ing the error and I find lots of unrelated, seemingly unhelpful stuff. I presume this is some system misconfiguration issue, but I've no idea what the problem is:
