Use the standalone package for pdf generation #45

This greatly simplifies management of the TeX files. We only need a single template to generate a file which can be included in a LaTeX document but also can be compiled on its own to generate a pdf version of the plot.

So in order to use artist figures you also need to add the standalone package (\usepackage{standalone}) to documents?

Maybe we should add an example preamble to the readme for easy discoverability.
