Picture will not show on main screen

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. It will happen when I open hangouts for a video chat
2.It will not show either my video or the other persons video on the large 
viewer
3.I can only see any sort of video on the small screens in the bottom right 
corner for selecting which video feed to view

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
To be able to see the person on the 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest one downloaded on 10/30/13. Using it on google chrome
