from https://gist.github.com/cam8001/8da5fb2ffb3400ce196f30d2c889cd96: Note: there is a comment in that gist saying that the latest Sierra broke the media keys but either that has been rectified or did not affect US keyboard layout because those bindings worked just fine for me today.

In the case that one wants these to be bound to the same function keys they normally are bound to these are written standard to new Media keys

    Previous: Fn + Q -> Fn + 7
    Next: Fn + E -> Fn + 9
    Play/Pause: Fn + W -> Fn + 8
    Mute: Fn + F -> Fn + 10
    Vol Down: Fn + S -> Fn + 11
    Vol Up: Fn + D -> Fn + 12
