walking in to a standing or dashing PUSHES the oppenent. the pusher stands still for X frames and plays the pushing sprite. the pusher gets pushed back Y distance for Z frames and plays sprite N.
think of it like an instant forward throw in smash, but way less complex
goin to strim this down to basics - if you walk into eachother stop on eachother isntead of the weird bouncing back and forth. Dashing into eachother has the same as current behaviour.
