We could either allow developers access to examples for: batch files (win),
applescripts (OS X) or Desktop files (Linux) to accommodate this. Or like you
said,
have functionality of this built into a preference file.

Yes, my vote would be for both options. Batch files and AppleScripts have their
place, but only complicate things for most users needing remote help.
When I can have someone on Linux, Mac or Win download the appropriate single,
executable file branded with my icon, have them doubleclick it and immediately
connect to me, gitso will be the ultimate remote assistance tool.

I agree that simplicity for the users getting help is the key. I would like the
option to compile a file that the end user would simply double-click; done.
I would also like to suggest that being able to add a message or image for
display
when the user opens the file would be nice... something like "Please wait while
we
attempt to connect. If you're having trouble, please call the support desk at
xxx-xxx-xxxx". Of course the text would have to be configurable. We use this
option
with our windows-only support solution, and having a cross-platform
single-purpose
tool would be really, really great!
