Maybe you could add polar ice caps, because they are only at the continents

ooh, absolutely! There's a big writeup I'm going to post over in issue #9 pretty soon and it deals a lot with this. We need to develop a far more rigorous way to represent mass pools and how they transfer from solid to liquid to gas.
