*Successful* PATCHSTICK from LaCie external hard drive!!!!!! #379

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the SOLUTION?
1. Updated ATV to 2.4 and wasted most-of-a-Sunday w/ numerous USB drives,
patch attempts, power cycles, pulling hair out
2. Loaded patchstick onto LaCie 160gb external hard-drive
3. Plugged into ATV using USB cable and it worked!

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Alternate method to get ATV-USB-Creator working w/ Apple TV 2.4 without USB
sticks

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
MacBookPro OS 10.5.6
atv-usb-creator-1.0b10
Downloaded AppleTV 2.4 dmg
(http://mesu.apple.com/data/OS/061-6242.20090624.Aq20P/2Z694-5660-029.dmg)
for use in atv-usb rather than download link in-software
LaCie 160gb HardDrive (Triple-Interface USB, FW400, FW800)

Please provide any additional information below.

That was it! Many failed attempts using various USB sticks (including the
one I originally used for PATCHSTICK before the AppleTV 2.4 update).

I apologize if a similar install has been performed and/or documented
elsewhere. Don't mean to be redundant. I just wasn't able to find an
instance of this working in my google searches around various forums.

Just an update.... all is well. Everything working fine. Went to doublecheck
everything (especially the use of an external USB drive) and I re-formatted the
SAME
LaCie external to move some videos / music to for a test. Probably obvious to
most
but DO NOT FORMAT *** MAC OSX EXTENDED (JOURNALED) ***.

In my haste to get everything going again after the 2.4 update debacle, I must
have
made that selection in Disk Utility by mistake. Re-formatted the SAME LaCie
drive Mac
OSX Extended, plugged it in and it was immediately happy. Everything playing
back
fine as I type this, loading it soon with more media.

Has anyone been able to make this work with atv-usb-creator-1.0b13?

Don't have any USB sticks, just an external hard drive. Trying this now on
1.0b13 with my 100gb WD hard drive.
Note I had to modify line 654 of
./lib/python2.5/site-packages/liveusb/creator.py to increase the maximum
allowed disk size.

the disk size limit is 64gb, acquiring devices with a size < this is easy and
cheap.
