Quick question.  Is the patch stick good even when apple releases a new
update? Or is a new patch required each time?

Hey, yep it's good, when a new update is released you have two options.

Download the latest Windows version released shortly after, or if impatience is 
a 
virtue, then "acquire" the DMG file yourself, open up either Mac or Windows 
version 
and press Choose DMG.

The patchstick tool is future proof, however future versions download the 
latest 
apple tv os for you, others only download the version available at the time. If 
you 
are confident in downloading it yourself -- then yes, you can do it straight 
away.
