patchstick works; just want my usb drive back - also don't understand backup #461

Hi - using win version of patchstick, so far so good (knock on wood), am 
downloading xbmc from launcher downloads now

2 questions:

1.  I can no longer "see" my usb stick in windows.  I want to use it for 
other purposes like a normal usb stick, but how do i get it back?

2.  I dont understand the purpose of the backup function in the usb creator 
app. I have already downloaded the .dmg files and created a .img file that 
I saved on my HD.  If something goes wrong, i'll just create another usb 
stick all over again with that .img file, right?

2. Backup is so you can restore your USB at a later point before you imaged it.
