Installed but not able to access items in Software Menu on ATV v3.01

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1.0b10 with firmware 3.01 on Mac OS 10.6.2

I made the flash drive using firmware v3.01 and installed it into my AppleTV. 
Everything works fine except 
when I enter the Software Menu. I can scroll up and down. When I click on an 
item in the menu, it gives an 
audible click but nothing happens.

I downloaded ATV-USB Creator v 1.0b10 and ATV firmware 3.01 dmg. Chose 
ATV-patchstick, Chose AppleTV 
version 2.x (only choice), chose XBMC/Boxee for Mac, chose my USB target 
device, clicked Create Using. 
unplugged AppleTV, inserted USB drive, plugged in AppleTV, let software 
install, unplugged AppleTV, plugged 
in AppleTV. I navigated through the AppleTV menu. Everything else works fine. 
When trying to access items in 
the Software Menu, I had the problem described above.

Any ideas?
